There’s a lot to learn about Medicare. We’re here to help you understand the Medicare basics, your different coverage options, enrollment and more. Through helpful resources and tools, discover the information you need to make confident Medicare decisions.
Medicare is individual health insurance offered to U.S. citizens and other eligible individuals based on age, disability or qualifying medical condition. Medicare coverage includes Medicare Part A and Part B (Original Medicare) offered by the federal government, and Medicare Advantage (Part C) and Part D prescription drug coverage, which are offered by private insurance companies. Medicare supplement insurance (Medigap) plans are also offered by private insurance companies and help pay for some out-of-pocket expenses that Medicare Part A and Part B don’t pay.

The federal health insurance program for:
- People who are 65 or older
- Certain younger people with disabilities
- People with End-Stage Renal Disease (permanent kidney failure requiring dialysis or a transplant, sometimes called ESRD)
The different parts of Medicare help cover specific services:
- Medicare Part A (Hospital Insurance)
Part A covers inpatient hospital stays, care in a skilled nursing facility, hospice care, and some home health care. - Medicare Part B (Medical Insurance)
Part B covers certain doctors’ services, outpatient care, medical supplies, and preventive services. - Medicare Part D (prescription drug coverage)
Helps cover the cost of prescription drugs (including many recommended shots or vaccines).
With Medicare, you have options in how you get your coverage. Once you enroll, you’ll need to decide how you’ll get your Medicare coverage.
Original Medicare includes Medicare Part A (Hospital Insurance) and Medicare Part B (Medical Insurance). You pay for services as you get them. When you get services, you’ll pay a
deductible at the start of each year, and you usually pay 20% of the cost of the Medicare-approved service, called coinsurance. If you want drug coverage, you can add a separate drug plan (Part D).Original Medicare pays for much, but not all, of the cost for covered health care services and supplies. A Medicare Supplement Insurance (Medigap) policy can help pay some of the remaining health care costs, like copayments, coinsurance, and deductibles. Some Medigap policies also cover services that Original Medicare doesn’t cover, like emergency medical care when you travel outside the U.S.
Medicare Advantage is Medicare-approved plan from a private company that offers an alternative to Original Medicare for your health and drug coverage. These “bundled” plans include Part A, Part B, and usually Part D. Plans may offer some extra benefits that Original Medicare doesn’t cover — like vision, hearing, and dental services. Medicare Advantage Plans have yearly contracts with Medicare and must follow Medicare’s coverage rules. The plan must notify you about any changes before the start of the next enrollment year.
Medicare drug coverage helps pay for prescription drugs you need. To get Medicare drug coverage, you must join a Medicare-approved plan that offers drug coverage (this includes Medicare drug plans and Medicare Advantage Plans with drug coverage).

Don’t take our word for it – here’s what our clients say:
My big mistake was thinking I knew more than I did. We paid nothing & cut our premium by 50%.
I mention Chris to all my friends.
Thank you Chris.

getting me the lowest priced supplement Plan N too when we relocated in April 2024. Mr. Dewey was very hands on and actually assisted in the majority of the process as well, step by step.
In addition, Mr. Christopher Dewey assisted my wife in getting medical coverage as she is not 65 yet and does not qualify for Medicare. So we got her the covered care here in South Carolina.
He was also very prompt in responding to my inquiries via email and text message.
We definitely recommend Mr. Chris Dewey at May River Medical Insurance!
Chris Dewey is the best Medicare Insurance Agent that you will ever find. He thinks long-term and gets you the best insurance company with the lowest rates, and only recommends them if that have a proven track record of maintaining these low rates. Medico in South Carolina is one perfect example. Very competitive rates today with small increases expected in the future. He recommends the program that is best for you, not the one that pays the highest commission. Remember, Medicare part N must be the same exact program no matter which insurance company is doing the underwriting - the US government sets the definitive rules that all insurance carriers must adhere to. Bottom line - chose Medicare Part N from the insurance company with the lowest rates. Chris will help you do that.
One other great move that Chris did for this current calendar year of 2024, was move me out of Aetna Part D Drug into Wellcare because Aetna raised there premium for 2024 and Wellcare costs only $0.50 premium per month for coverage that I believe will be even better. Chris did what was best for the customer, not for his wallet. Great job and thanks.
What sets Chris apart is his genuine care and attention to detail. He took the time to understand my unique healthcare needs, guiding me towards a Medicare plan that suits me perfectly. His expertise and knowledge of the healthcare industry are impressive, and he explained everything in a way that was easy to understand.
Chris's friendly demeanor and willingness to go the extra mile truly made me feel valued as a customer. He not only helped me select the right plan but also assisted in the enrollment process, making it a stress-free experience.
Thank you, Chris, and the May River Medicare team, for providing outstanding customer service and making the Medicare enrollment process a breeze. Your dedication to your customers is truly commendable.
I highly recommend May River Medicare Insurance...
