Medicare Advantage vs Supplement
Two very different ways to fill the gaps in Original Medicare. There’s no single “best” — only what’s best for you. Take the 60-second matcher, then compare them side by side in plain English.
Which One Fits You? — 60-Second Matcher
Answer a few quick questions. We’ll show which path tends to fit your life — and why.
The Full Side-by-Side
Here’s how the two paths actually differ across the things that matter most. Remember: you can have one or the other — never both.
Who Each One Tends to Fit
Advantage may fit you if…
- You want the lowest possible monthly premium and a single all-in-one card.
- Your doctors are in the plan’s network and you mostly get care locally.
- You value extras like dental, vision, hearing, and fitness benefits.
- You’re generally healthy and comfortable with copays as you go.
- You don’t travel much or split time between states.
A Supplement may fit you if…
- You want to keep any doctor or hospital nationwide — no networks, no referrals.
- You travel or spend part of the year in another state.
- You have chronic conditions or see specialists often.
- You’d rather pay a steady premium for very predictable, low out-of-pocket costs.
- Peace of mind and stability matter more to you than the lowest premium.
★ The one rule everyone should know
You can have one or the other — never both. By law, a Supplement won’t pay anything toward Medicare Advantage services, so you choose a single path.
The switch can be harder later. It’s usually easy to move from a Supplement to Advantage. Going the other way — from Advantage back to a Supplement — often requires answering health questions (underwriting), and you could be charged more or turned down, except in special guaranteed-issue situations, trial rights, or certain state rules. That’s why the choice when you first enroll deserves real thought — and a licensed agent who’ll walk you through it.
Not Sure Which Path Is Right? Let’s Figure It Out Together.
